Acupuncture is an ancient healing art which some believe
originated in the East
approximately 4,000 years ago. It is a
healing technique which focuses on the
movement of "Chi" energy
which moves or "flows" through channels or "meridians"
running
along arms, legs, the head and over the trunk of the body.
Chi is an energy which balances, heals and strengthens our body
from birth to death.
Many things can change how this energy flows
through the body. The most common
causes of change are injury,
illness or stress from emotional or chemical sources.
When Chi
is altered in its flow (either sped up, slowed down, etc.), poor
harmony and
degenerating health occur. It is then that symptoms
appear. Acupuncture is a way of
normalizing the Chi energy, allowing
the body to regain balance, harmony and health.
Acupuncture can be done with very fine, sterile needles (which
are nearly painless),
heat, cold laser, finger pressure, electricity,
or tapping. Most treatments take only
15-20 minutes and are comfortable.
There generally are no side effects other than
a feeling of calm
associated with acupuncture treatments. Acupuncture is quickly
becoming mainstream in the U.S. Most insurance companies have
at least some
coverage for this therapy.
Acupuncture can and has been successfully used to treat headaches,
migraines,
general illness, sciatica, back pain, digestive troubles
such as heartburn, Chrones
disease, and diverticulitis. Even the
World Health Organization lists pages of conditions
acupuncture
can help with. Acupuncture has been used for decades in the East
as an
anesthetic when surgery is performed. It is even used on
animals.
Acupuncture is a powerful treatment when used alone. When used
in conjunction with
chiropractic it can be even more effective.
Chiropractic health care was originally created by Dr.
B.J. Palmer in 1898 in Davenport,
Iowa. After "adjusting" or correcting
the alignment of a vertebra in a deaf janitor, who
immediately
regained his hearing. Dr. Palmer deducted that subtle pressures
on the
nerves running the body from these "mis-aligned" vertebra
could be corrected with an
adjustment, hence thelping the body
regain it's health and well being.
Since that time, millions of chiropractic adjustments have been
given to young and
old alike. While not everyone has regained
their hearing, there have been miraculous
changes to lives too
numerous to mention. Many of these miracles are being achieved
on patients who have experienced less than adequate medical intervention.
The chiropractic lifestyle is one where the focus is on optimal
performance (physical,
mental, emotional) of the individual throughout
life. We believe that without adequate
rest, water, exercise,
nutrition, optimism, spirituality, etc. it is very hard if not
impossible
to achieve high levels of health and overall performance.
The keystone of this philosophy is the chiropractic adjustment.
An adjustment to the
spine clears damaging interference from the
nervous system, allowing it to perform
as well as it was meant
to (like a finely tuned car, piano, etc.). With optimal performance,
the brain and nervous system will make the most of your rest,
nutrition, water, exercise,
etc. in creating an individual that
not only "feels" great, but whose body performs "great"
in all
they do, throughout their whole life. That performance may be
a sport, in healing
from an injury or in helping the body overcome
an illness.
Chiropractic care, performed properly, is very safe and effestive
for most people.
Most Doctors of Chiropractic have completed a
course of study comparable to a
medical school education.
Chiropractic is a powerful form of health care which should be part of everyone's healthcare.
On-site massage therapy has been offered in our office
for 12 years. It is an integral
part of our overall plan for getting
you back to "your life" as quickly as possible. Our
therapist
is licensed and experienced.
Massage therapy is safe and effective for relaxation, immune
system enhancement
or improved sports performance. It should also
be thought of as a great, pro-active
means of managing injury,
the long-term effect on the body from work postures
(sitting or
standing all day), and chronic stress.
You can schedule sessions from ½ hour to more than 2 hours long.
During your
session, you will be cared for in a warm, quiet atmosphere
where your comfort and
privacy is our utmost concern. The therapist
may use a variety of techniques and will
always adjust her technique
to suit your comfort level.
Having found only temporary relief, or temporary answers
to their health challenges
through the use of medications, many
patients have been very interested in making
the most of nutrition
and supplements to improve their health.
In the hopes of making the most of your experience here in our
office and regaining
your health as quickly as possible, we stay
up-to-date on the most current information
about diet and nutrition.
We offer testing to uncover digestive challenges such as heartburn
or reflux, intestinal
injury or inflammation, absorption troubles,
and female/male hormone issues.
Vitamin and mineral supplementation can be explored and suggestions
can be made
to further accelerate your recovery, strengthening
your body and supporting your
chiropractic treatment.
